Island of the Blue Dolphins vs. Julie of the Wolves
We have just finished reading two great survival books in school. The first great book that we finished is Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’ Dell. This very good book is about a girl who gets left behind by accident on an island. The girl’s name is Karan

runs away from a horrible arranged marriage. She becomes accepted by a pack of wolves and becomes a part of nature. These books have more similarities than differences.

While these books have many similarities, there are differences. The first difference is Karana got accidentally left behind and the other girl Julie ran away on purpose. Another difference is how they are in different climates. Julie is in the Arctic tundra and Karana is stranded on an island that experiences all four seasons. The next difference is how Karana has plenty of food around her that is easy to catch and find. Julie is lost and hunting game is almost impossible for her and she needed help from the wolves.

Island of the Blue Dolphins and Julie of the Wolves are books that have a lot similarities. The first similarity is that both girls are Native American. Julie of Julie of the Wolves is from an Eskimo tribe and Karana of Island of the blue Dolphins is an Indian who lives on San-Nicholas Island. Another similarity is how they both have perseverance. When Karana was stranded on the island, she kept on going even though she had no one around. Also when Julie had nowhere to go, she just kept on going and was accepted by the pack of wolves. The last similarity is how they both had a love for nature that grew out of all their time surrounded by nature. There are also many more similarities that are not mentioned. Even though two books can have entirely different stories, there can be many similarities.
